These are the core pieces of hiking gear I rely on for safety and comfort on my hikes in all conditions.
Backpack
Osprey Hikelite 26 - This pack is very light, big enough for everything on a day hike, and has an effective trampoline back that allows airflow to go over your back, keeping it dry. The downside with the 2026 version of this is that you can’t remove the hip belt, which for a day hike is generally overkill. So what I do is clip the hip belt backwards, over the back of the pack, and problem solved.
