エレナはカリフォルニア大学サンタバーバラ校在学中にアウトドアガイドとして働き始め、教育と社会正義に重点を置いた環境科学の学士号を取得した。大学卒業後、彼女はコロラドに移り住み、そこで旅行と、教育と利用しやすいアウトドア・レクリエーションへの情熱を追求し続けた。青少年と再び仕事ができることに興奮し、いずれは学校に戻って教員免許を取得したいと考えている！
