Grab your Permethrin and pack your Picaridin… May is Lyme & Tick-Borne Disease Awareness Month!

Tick-borne illnesses are among the fastest-growing infectious disease threats in the United States with over half a million new cases of Lyme disease alone each year. According to the Center for Disease Control, that makes Lyme the fastest-growing vector-borne disease in the country.

That's why we're giving away a free, treatable mosquito head net with every purchase of permethrin throughout the month of May!

But it’s not just Lyme; alpha-gal can cause life-threatening allergic reactions to ingestion or exposure to red meat and other mammalian products. There are now 3 species of tick widely found throughout the US that transmit this disease.

Children, the elderly, outdoor workers, and pet owners are among high-risk populations. In fact, those who keep pets in the home are 2.5 times more likely to be bitten by a tick than those without.

So, why is awareness so important? Because, prevention works!

Treat clothes, gear, and dogs with permethrin. An easy, do-it-yourself way to ensure protection from biting bugs for 6 weeks of UV exposure, or 6 washes in a washing machine.

Pro Tip for Hunters: A single deer can carry thousands of ticks; make sure you bring them home dead, not alive. When you bring the deer or other game home, lay it on a permethrin-treated blanket in the back of the truck. As the animal cools, the ticks will fall off, land on the treated fabric, and die.

Use picaridin when recreating or working outdoors. The “Gentle Giant” of our insect repellents, Picaridin lotion or spray needs to only be applied once per day to effectively keep the ticks at bay.

Perform regular tick checks. Pay special attention to ears, scalp or hairline, toes, armpits, knees, and belly button.
