Eastern Kentucky’s oldest newspaper, The Big Sandy News celebrated its 135th anniversary in 2020 and renewed its commitment to provide news and sports to readers in the Big Sandy region.  The BSN was established in 1885 to cover news in the Lawrence County area. In 2001, the newspaper extended its coverage to other parts of the region, including Johnson, Martin and Floyd counties.  The Big Sandy News is headquartered in Louisa and continues to provide news and sports coverage in those counties to this day.  The Big Sandy News is owned and published by Tim Stamper and Ritt Mortimer, who formed Big Sandy Media LLC and purchased the paper in 2019.
